• Foreign Affairs updates travel advice for visitors to Budapest Pride

  The Foreign Affairs Department updated its travel advice for Hungary on Thursday. Visitors to the Pride event taking place in Budapest this Saturday are being warned that they may face fines, as the march through the city center has been banned by the authorities.

  "The Hungarian government, through the Minister of Justice, has announced that the Pride March scheduled for 28 June 2025 is prohibited by law," reads the website of the Foreign Affairs Department. "It remains unclear under what conditions the Pride March will take place. Under Hungarian law, participating in a banned demonstration is, in principle, punishable by a fine of up to 200,000 Hungarian forints (approx. 500 EUR). The law also permits the use of facial recognition to identify participants."

  "In light of the above, we remind you that participation in a demonstration not authorised by the Hungarian authorities is the sole responsibility of the individual participant. We advise potential participants to exercise caution and stay informed about the current situation via the media and the social media channels of the embassy in Budapest. For their safety, participants are especially advised to avoid possible counter-demonstrations and, in case of disturbances, to follow the instructions of the local police."

• Affaires étrangères alerte les voyageurs Budapest Pride

  Le service des Affaires étrangères a mis à jour jeudi ses conseils de voyage pour la Hongrie. Les visiteurs de la Pride qui se déroulera samedi à Budapest sont avertis qu’ils peuvent être sanctionnés par des amendes, car la marche à travers le centre-ville a été interdite par les autorités.

  "Le gouvernement hongrois, par l’intermédiaire du ministre de la Justice, a annoncé que la Pride March prévue le 28 juin 2025 est interdite par la loi », peut-on lire sur le site des Affaires étrangères. « Il reste incertain dans quelles conditions la Pride aura lieu. Selon la loi hongroise, la participation à une manifestation interdite est en principe passible d’une amende pouvant aller jusqu’à 200 000 forints hongrois (environ 500 EUR). La loi hongroise autorise l’utilisation de la reconnaissance faciale pour identifier les participants."

   

  "Compte tenu de ce qui précède, nous vous rappelons que la participation à une manifestation non autorisée par les autorités hongroises relève de la responsabilité individuelle de chaque participant. Nous conseillons aux personnes souhaitant y prendre part de faire preuve de vigilance et de suivre l’évolution de la situation via les médias et les réseaux sociaux de l’ambassade à Budapest. Dans l’intérêt de leur sécurité, il leur est particulièrement recommandé de se tenir à l’écart d’éventuelles contre-manifestations et de suivre les instructions de la police locale en cas de troubles."

• Buitenlandse Zaken past reisadvies voor bezoekers van Budapest Pride aan

  De dienst Buitenlandse Zaken heeft donderdag zijn reisadvies voor Hongarije aangepast. Bezoekers aan de Pride die zaterdag in Boedapest doorgaat, worden gewaarschuwd dat ze boetes kunnen oplopen omdat de optocht door het stadscentrum door de autoriteiten is verboden.

  "De Hongaarse regering heeft, bij monde van de minister van Justitie, bekendgemaakt dat de Pride March die gepland staat op 28 juni 2025, door de wet verboden is", zo staat te lezen op de website van Buitenlandse Zaken. "Het blijft onduidelijk onder welke omstandigheden de Pride March zal plaatsvinden. Volgens de Hongaarse wet is deelname aan een verboden demonstratie in principe strafbaar met een boete van maximaal 200.000 Hongaarse forint (+/- 500 EUR). De Hongaarse wet staat het gebruik van gezichtsherkenning toe om deelnemers te identificeren."

   

  "Gezien het bovenstaande herinneren wij u eraan dat deelname aan een demonstratie die niet is toegestaan door de Hongaarse autoriteiten de verantwoordelijkheid is van elke individuele deelnemer. Wij raden eventuele deelnemers aan om de nodige waakzaamheid in acht te nemen en op de hoogte te blijven van de actuele situatie via de media en de sociale media van de ambassade in Boedapest. In het bijzonder worden eventuele deelnemers in het belang van hun veiligheid aangeraden om afstand te houden van mogelijke tegenmanifestaties en om, in geval van ongeregeldheden, de richtlijnen van de lokale politie op te volgen."

• Belgian Delegation Travels to Budapest Pride

  The Belgian LGBTQ+ advocacy group çavaria is heading to Budapest Pride along with a delegation of activists, politicians, and journalists. However, it is still uncertain whether the march scheduled for this Saturday will actually take place. The mayor of Budapest has granted permission, but the police have issued a ban. The Hungarian government recently passed a constitutional ban on public LGBTI+ events, but local activists are refusing to be silenced. Similar delegations are expected from other European countries to help ensure that this Pride does not get quietly cancelled.

  “What is happening in Hungary today doesn’t just affect Hungarian society. It strikes at the core values of the European Union,” says Thomas Jans, spokesperson for çavaria. “With our presence, we express solidarity and also warn that hard-won rights could come under threat elsewhere — including here in Belgium.”

  The situation in Hungary is deeply concerning. For years, Prime Minister Orbán has waged a campaign against equal rights and the visibility of LGBTI+ people. Since April, it has been officially forbidden to organize LGBTI+ events such as Budapest Pride. The right to change one’s legal gender was previously revoked, and a so-called “child protection law” now bans any depiction or discussion of homosexuality or gender diversity for minors. This legislation fosters a climate of censorship, exclusion, and fear.

  Çavaria is calling on Belgian and European policymakers to take a firmer stance against this alarming trend. At the same time, their presence aims to offer encouragement to the Hungarian LGBTI+ community.

   

  To circumvent the Pride ban, Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony has announced that the city itself will host the event. The çavaria delegation will be on site this weekend to report on the situation and connect with Hungarian activists.

• Une délégation belge se rend à la Budapest Pride

  L’association belge de défense des droits LGBTQ+, çavaria, se rend à la Budapest Pride avec une délégation composée d’activistes, de responsables politiques et de journalistes. Il n’est toutefois pas encore certain que la marche prévue ce samedi pourra effectivement avoir lieu. Le maire de Budapest a donné son accord, mais la police l’a interdite. Le gouvernement hongrois a récemment introduit une interdiction constitutionnelle des événements publics LGBTI+, mais les activistes locaux refusent de se laisser réduire au silence. Des délégations similaires sont attendues d’autres pays européens afin d’empêcher que cette Pride soit discrètement annulée.

  « Ce qui se passe aujourd’hui en Hongrie ne touche pas seulement la société hongroise. Cela remet en question les valeurs fondamentales de l’Union européenne », déclare Thomas Jans, porte-parole de çavaria. « Par notre présence, nous exprimons notre solidarité, mais nous mettons aussi en garde : ailleurs, y compris en Belgique, des droits acquis peuvent également être menacés. »

  La situation en Hongrie est préoccupante. Depuis des années, le Premier ministre Orbán mène une offensive contre l’égalité des droits et la visibilité des personnes LGBTI+. Depuis avril, les événements LGBTI+ comme la Budapest Pride sont officiellement interdits. La possibilité de modifier son enregistrement de genre a également été supprimée, et une soi-disant « loi de protection de l’enfance » interdit toute représentation ou discussion sur l’homosexualité ou la diversité de genre devant les mineurs. Cette législation crée un climat de censure, d’exclusion et de peur.

  Çavaria appelle les responsables politiques belges et européens à réagir plus fermement face à cette évolution inquiétante. En même temps, leur présence vise à envoyer un message d’encouragement à la communauté LGBTI+ hongroise.

   

  Pour contourner l’interdiction de la Pride, le maire de Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, a annoncé que la ville organiserait elle-même l’événement. La délégation de çavaria sera sur place ce week-end pour rendre compte de la situation et établir des contacts avec les activistes hongrois.

• Belgische delegatie reist af naar Budapest Pride

  De Vlaamse LGBTQ-belangenvereniging çavaria reist samen met een delegatie van Belgische activisten, politici en journalisten af naar de Budapest Pride. Of de optocht komende zaterdag effectief kan doorgaan, is nog onzeker. De burgemeester van Boedapest heeft toestemming gegeven, maar de politie heeft de mars verboden. De Hongaarse regering voerde recent een grondwettelijk verbod in op publieke LGBTI+ evenementen, maar lokale activisten weigeren zich weg te laten drukken. Ook uit andere Europese landen worden gelijkaardige delegaties verwacht, om te vermijden dat deze Pride in stilte geschrapt wordt.

  “Wat vandaag in Hongarije gebeurt, treft niet enkel de Hongaarse samenleving. Het raakt aan de kernwaarden van de Europese Unie,” zegt Thomas Jans, woordvoerder van çavaria. “Met onze aanwezigheid tonen we solidariteit én waarschuwen we dat ook elders, ook bij ons in België, verworven rechten onder druk kunnen komen te staan.”

  De situatie in Hongarije is zorgwekkend. Al jaren voert premier Orbán een actieve campagne tegen gelijke rechten en de zichtbaarheid van LGBTI+ personen. Sinds april is het officieel verboden om LGBTI+ evenementen, zoals de Budapest Pride, te organiseren. Eerder werd ook de mogelijkheid afgeschaft om de officiële genderregistratie te wijzigen, en kwam er een zogenaamde ‘kinderbeschermingswet’ die elke voorstelling of bespreking van homoseksualiteit of genderdiversiteit voor minderjarigen verbiedt. Die wetgeving creëert een klimaat van censuur, uitsluiting en angst.

  Çavaria roept Belgische en Europese beleidsmakers op om zich krachtiger uit te spreken tegen deze evolutie. Tegelijk willen ze met hun aanwezigheid de Hongaarse LGBTI+ gemeenschap een hart onder de riem steken.

   

  Om het verbod op de Pride te omzeilen, kondigde de burgemeester van Boedapest, Gergely Karácsony, aan dat de stad zélf het evenement zal organiseren. De çavaria-delegatie zal dit weekend ter plaatse verslag uitbrengen en in contact treden met Hongaarse activisten.

• 450 deelnemers aan pride parade in Brugge

  Afgelopen zaterdag hebben zo’n 450 deelnemers meegelopen in de Pride Parade in Brugge. Die vertrok aan de Garenmarkt en trok door het centrum naar de Beenhouwersstraat. Daar werd de stoet ontbonden en vond een afterparty plaats.

  Net als vorig jaar reden er geen vrachtwagens mee en werd gekozen voor een kleinschalige optocht door het stadscentrum van Brugge. De organisatoren telden dubbel zoveel deelnemers als vorig jaar.

• Limburg Pride stelt themesong en programma voor

  Limburg Pride heeft in Maasmechelen Village de officiële countdown gegeven en het volledige programma en themesong voor de komende maand voorgesteld.  

  Nog een kleine maand en dan trekt er door Hasselt voor de eerste keer een pride. Het hoogtepunt van de eerste LImburg Pride gaat door op 13 juli in Hasselt. Vanaf 14 uur trekken een veertigtal groepen met een aantal gemotoriseerde vrachtwagens over de kleine ring van Hasselt. Op het Kolonel Dusartplein en Koning Albertplein wordt ook een queer village met allerlei standjes geopend. Ook zijn er optredens voorzien van een dj’s, Belle Perez, Bart Kaël en 2 Fabiola en verschillende dragqueens.

   

  Voorafgaand aan de eerste Limburgse pride staan er ook heel wat evenementen gepland die in de komende maand over heel Limburg verspreid zullen plaatsvinden. Zo zijn er pre-pride party’s in Arena V (voormalige Versuz), LGBTQ-filmvoorstellingen in de Hasseltse bioscoop Cinema Z, verschillende dragbrunches (Maasmechelen Village en Hasselt) en veel meer. Alles is terug te vinden op de website van Limburg Pride.

  Tijdens de kick-off werd ook het thema-lied ‘Embrace Yourself’ van producer Nysmos voorgesteld. “We wilden altijd al een soort anthem maken voor Limburg Pride, afgestemd op het jaarthema. Zo'n anthem vraagt echter veel werk, dus voor deze eerste editie hebben we gekozen voor een theme song – een soort kleinere versie van een anthem. Die is afgestemd op het thema van dit jaar: mentale gezondheid.”

  Limburg Pride gaat dit jaar op 13 juli voor de eerste keer door in Hasselt.

• Laat je horen: Çavaria zoekt stemmen voor strijdlied

  De LGBTQ+ koepel Çavaria lanceert een nieuwe sensibiliseringscampagne die moet leiden tot de creatie van een nieuw strijdlied voor de regenbooggemeenschap.
  “Onze stemmen worden nog te vaak genegeerd, onderbroken of verdraaid in de wereld,” zo staat te lezen in de laatste nieuwsbrief en op de campagnewebsite. “Met Laat Je Horen geven we jullie stemmen de ruimte, de kracht én het podium die ze verdienen.”

  Via een formulier kan iedereen aangeven wat hen inspireert of stoort.
  “Elke stem telt, letterlijk. Wat jij schrijft of inspreekt, vormt mee de basis voor een strijdlied dat de woede, kracht en hoop van onze gemeenschap laat weerklinken. Jouw woorden kunnen straks onderdeel zijn van de tekst, de sfeer of zelfs de refreinen van dat collectieve strijdlied!”

  Ook in de toekomst zullen de ingezamelde boodschappen nog gebruikt worden, aldus Çavaria.

• Minister Beenders criticizes VRT MAX for giving a platform to homophobic influencer

  In the Social Affairs Committee, Minister for Persons with Disabilities and Equal Opportunities Rob Beenders (Vooruit) elaborated on his earlier comment regarding the documentary on the homophobic influencer Andrew Tate, which remains available on the VRT MAX streaming platform without any context.
  “Andrew Tate has a significant influence on social media and became particularly well known for his homophobic and also misogynistic statements,” said Beenders. “And it is mainly because of these statements that he has gained such a following on social media, especially among younger audiences. I find that quite concerning.”

  In the documentary, Tate’s statements are shown unfiltered. “Some of the explicit footage is deeply troubling, especially considering the impact it can have on youth. For example, the exploitation of girls to build his company and earn millions is shown uncensored — including clips in which the profits are applauded. In another scene, he presents his lifestyle as the dream of every teenage boy.”

  For Minister Beenders, these messages are problematic, and the documentary offers a one-sided perspective by only using existing footage without critical context or analysis. He is also concerned that the homophobic influencer is being given a platform via VRT MAX until the end of August to spread his homophobic and misogynistic views.

   

  However, media oversight does not fall within Minister Beenders’ remit, and he cannot officially contact VRT about the documentary. “What does fall under my responsibility is the promotion of an inclusive society and a policy focused on equal opportunities, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or other protected characteristics. In line with that mission, I will continue to work actively to protect the rights of LGBTI+ people and to combat discrimination and hate speech, both online and offline,” said the minister on Tuesday in the Social Affairs Committee.
